Mind Over Matters
Our mission is to provide you, the Natchitoches community, with trusted, accurate, up-to-date, and unbiased mental health and wellness information.
Welcome to the Mind Over Matters website. This website was developed with the sole purpose of bringing mental health education and related treatment resources to the Natchitoches community. Our website is different from most other mental health and wellness sites. We are not in the business of making money, offering other services, or seeing how many clicks we can get. Unlike most websites, we are local. Our leadership team and advisory board are members of this community. Because we value our community, we will do our best to make sure the information we provide is unbiased, current, and accurate.
Mind Over Matters Is Not Just a Website
We are an initiative dedicated to the overall wellness of our community members. We believe that all facets of wellness—mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual—work together to help us become the healthy, happy, loving individuals we want to be. Mind Over Matters believes that healthier citizens produce a healthier, more supportive, and more productive community. To this end, we will soon be adding more articles on healthy living to our website. We are also excited to be sponsoring in-person classes on issues such as parenting, conflict resolution, financial literacy, and anger management.

Our Journey
During and after the covid pandemic, rates of mental health and substance abuse doubled throughout the country. Here in Natchitoches, mental health providers saw a rise in the demand for treatment, suggesting that our community was very much a part of the national suffering.
In response, a local counselor created the idea for a comprehensive mental health education program, which she took to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Foundation Board. The board wholeheartedly backed the idea, appointed a leadership team, and provided financial and administrative support for the Mind Over Matters initiative. The leadership team spent about a year developing the idea, assessing mental health needs in the Natchitoches community, partnering with local organizations, cataloging treatment resources, building an advisory board, and creating this website. Mind Over Matters is now a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Mind Over Matters will continue to grow as we respond to the changing mental health and wellness needs of our community.
